"My First Ride"
I had never been so scared until the day I decided to jump on my mom's horse, Stormy. It all began when I first met my mom's three new horses Stormy, Kelly, and Rio.
I was out in the field with my mom and friends. My mom was showing me how to properly groom, brush, and pick a horse's hooves. First, she started by showing me how to brush a horse and get all the excess hair and thistles off the horse's body. Afterwards, she showed me how to lift their hooves and pick them out, away from the inside of the horse's hooves so it's not uncomfortable for the horse.
Then, as soon as I was done caring for the horse properly, I told my friend, "Give me a lift, I want to ride this horse!" As soon as I said that, my friend bent down to offer me a lift and without thinking, I was already on the horse. As soon as I jumped on the horse, it took off, much like a bolt of lightning and I was on the horse holding on for dear life! She took me around the field three or four times and my head was spinning round and round.
Meanwhile, everyone was having the time of their lives; laughing, joking, talking etc. Right then, I knew I had to get off the horse correctly and not risk any type of injury. So, I leaned forward, stuck my legs straight back, swung my legs to the left of the horse and slid off, finally dismounting the horse.
My mom and all the others at this point were so flush in the face with laughter, that I could hardly recognize them any more. I started to talk to a friend and he said, "How stupid could you be, Zach? You don't just jump on a horse without a saddle and bridle!"
I replied,"You should have told me that before you gave me a boost onto the horse!" He continued as to how it was common sense and how I could have gotten hurt.
I did learn something that day. I learned how to fall off a horse correctly! This should be a lesson that I believe, everyone should have to learn the hard way but unfortunately, other people have common sense.
In conclusion, this has been a scary, fun, and fruitful experience that I wouldn't trade for the world. I have learned how to care for, ride, and fall of horses correctly. I think that everyone should be as lucky as I, to learn how to ride a horse.
